With gold at near-record high prices, Cornwall residents have the chance to sell their old jewelry and coins to a community buyer.
Theresa Taylor Auctioneering is hosting an exchange at the civic complex today, Sept. 10, one of several they hold each year to buy up local items.
Taylor said they have been doing the exchanges for years, but have been making the option more visible in recent months due to the increase of national and international companies stopping in Cornwall for the same reason.
"People, when thinking of selling precious metals…they need to know who they're dealing with," she said.
"They know that (we're) a firm that's been around, that they can call up anytime and talk to. We're established in Cornwall."
Taylor said usually a couple hundred people come out for the exchange bearing heirlooms, coin collections and jewelry.
"For people that want to captivate on the market at this time, it's a good time to sell," she said. "We guarantee that we pay them the best value."
But Taylor said there's no obligation to sell - their appraisers provide the value and other information about items without requiring people to hand them over.
"It's a good service," she said. "It's educational for them to know."
The Saturday exchange will be held in the Grace McLeod room at the complex from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
